Situation

The client needed to expand its early‑career software engineering capability in Gloucester to meet growing project demand. The organisation recognised that traditional recruitment channels were not delivering the diversity, reach or volume as hoped, particularly when aiming to engage underrepresented demographics in the tech sector. With competition for early-career engineering talent increasing, BAE Systems needed a more targeted and inclusive approach to attract motivated candidates with the potential to grow into high‑impact roles.

Challenge

Alongside attracting a broader pool of applicants, BAE Systems required new hires who were genuinely project‑ready. This meant candidates needed structured, role‑specific development that would prepare them to step confidently into client environments and contribute from day one. The challenge was balancing accelerated recruitment with high‑quality training – ensuring that early‑career engineers not only joined the organisation but were equipped with the practical software engineering foundations needed to deliver immediate value.

Our Solution and Approach

At Corecom Tech Academy, we specialise in recruiting, training, and deploying diverse talent, from recent graduates to career switchers, who are motivated to transition into the tech industry. Through our bespoke recruitment process, we work closely with clients to match top candidates to their specific needs. Our tailored approach ensures that individuals are equipped with both technical aptitude and the ability to adapt to fast-paced work environments.

To widen access and reach underrepresented demographics in tech, we launched targeted social media campaigns and used carefully selected job boards, generating strong engagement and a highquality applicant pool. Shortlisted candidates were invited to join an assessment day arranged and ran by Corecom Tech Academy where they got to meet existing employees of BAE Systems and take part in some interactive activities designed to bring out their transferable skills. The successful candidates we’re then onboarded into full time paid roles, before progressing through bespoke training designed specifically for BAE Systems, ensuring they were fully project-ready for Full Stack Software Engineering roles.

Our training equipped them with modern engineering capabilities, including Functional Programming, Git, CI/CD, AWS, Java conversion, and Objectoriented programming, building both technical depth and delivery confidence. Following completion, the group of 14 were successfully deployed into client environments, each prepared to contribute immediately and effectively. This integrated approach delivered a pipeline of diverse, skilled engineers aligned to BAE Systems’ technical needs and longterm talent strategy.
