Corecom Tech Academy - Assessment Centre Tips

Our Academy Assessment Centres are designed to give you the chance to show who you are, not just what you have studied or where you have worked.

We understand that stepping into a new assessment environment can feel daunting, so our aim is to create an inclusive space where you can feel comfortable, confident and ready to demonstrate your potential.

Our Recruitment Coordinator, Gemma Smith, is back sharing what you can expect on the day and how to make the most of the experience.

What is an Assessment Centre?

After your initial interview and technical aptitude test, successful candidates are invited to ainperson assessment centre or client interview. This session gives you the chance to shine – highlighting your key strengths in actionshowcasing your potential, and getting a feel for the environment you may be joining.

With support from our Academy team, these sessions include practical group tasks, discussions and activities that showcase your problem-solving, communication style and enthusiasm for learning, creating a fun and collaborative experience for you.

A Focus on Soft Skills

In tech roles, the ability to work well with others, communicate clearly and adapt to new situations is just as valuable as technical skills. This is why our Assessment Centres place a strong focus on soft skills.

Let’s explore these in a bit more detail.

Communication

One of the most insightful parts of the session is seeing how you interact with people you’ve never worked with before, as this reflects real project environments where you’ll be joining new client teams.

We also look at how you collaborate in group tasks, and there’s no expectation for you to lead every discussion either. What matters is how you contribute, support your team and help move the activity forward – as these are the qualities clients and their teams value most.

Networking and Asking Questions

Similarly to communication, we also look out for the networking element. Asking questions shows enthusiasm and helps you understand whether the Academy is the right fit for you. We encourage you to speak with our team, learn even more about the programme and explore what your future in tech could look like.

Your questions tell us what matters to you, and they help us see how you engage with new opportunities.

Problem Solving

Problem solving is another important part of the day. You may be given a unique task that’s new to you, which simply helps us see how you approach unfamiliar challenges, break them down and work with others to find a way forward. We’re not expecting perfection – just a positive attitude and a willingness to get involved.

Adaptability

Adaptability is the final core soft skill we look for. Working environments in tech can shift quickly, so being able to adjust, stay open minded and respond positively to new information is a real strength.

Whether you’re joining a new team or tackling an unexpected task, your ability to adapt helps us understand how you’ll navigate a real working environment when joining the Academy.

Sharing Your Technical Background

You’ll also have the opportunity to talk about your technical experience, interests and goals with us. We are not looking for a specific level of expertise. Instead, we’re interested in how you explain what you know and how you have approached your learning so far.

Confidence does not mean having all the answers. It means being able to speak clearly about your journey, your strengths and the areas you are excited to develop.

What This Means for Businesses

Our approach to assessment centres is designed to support candidates, but it also ensures that the businesses we work with gain access to well rounded, project-ready talent. By focusing on communication, teamwork, problem solving and adaptability, we’re able to identify individuals who can contribute meaningfully from the very beginning. These qualities help teams collaborate effectively, respond to change and deliver strong results.

When businesses partner with Corecom Tech Academy, they benefit from candidates who have already demonstrated their ability to work well with others, navigate new environments and communicate confidently. This reduces onboarding time, strengthens team dynamics and supports long-term business success.

Final Thoughts

Our assessment centres are designed to be supportive, engaging, and reflective of the collaborative environment you’ll experience in the tech industry.

We’re excited to meet you, learn about your ambitions, and see how you could grow with us at Corecom Tech Academy!
