World Mental Heath Day 2025: Prioritising Mental Health in a Tech Workplace
By Shantelle King.
1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year in England.
World Mental Health Day (10 October) is a timely reminder of just how important mental wellbeing is, both in our personal lives and in the workplace. With the above statistic by Mind, it’s essential that organisations focus on creating a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone feels able to prioritise their mental health.
Our Academy believes that mental wellbeing is just as important as professional development. So, to mark this year’s World Mental Health Day, we caught up with our fantastic Mental Health First Aiders, Rachel and Gemma, to explore the priority of workplace wellbeing, personal growth, and holistic support for teams in Tech.
Why Mental Health at Work Matters
Mental health challenges don’t start and stop with the working day. Stress, anxiety, and burnout can affect anyone, no matter their role or industry – and left unsupported, these issues can impact employee wellbeing, productivity, and workplace culture.
Our Academy aims to put mental wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. From regular one-to-ones to personal development programmes and access to mental health support, our team pushes to create a workplace (and tech industry) where everyone feels valued, included and supported.
Rachel, one of our Mental Health First Aiders at Corecom Technology Academy, shares:
"For me, supporting mental health at CTA isn’t just a ‘nice to have’, it’s creating the foundations of how people thrive here, and are able to bring their whole selves to work. Tech careers can be exciting, but a new career brings new challenges. I want our Associates to know they never have to carry that weight alone."
Mental Wellbeing in Recruitment Environments
Recruitment is naturally high-pressure, with targets, tight deadlines, and the emotional ups and downs that come with the role.
Corecom Consulting’s Mental Health First Aider, Gemma, weighs in on building healthy work dynamics in a sales-driven consultancy, sharing;
“Our team makes sure mental health is part of our everyday conversations, not an afterthought, with our internal wellbeing team always being readily available for confidential support and encouraging leaders to check in on how people are really doing”.
Professional resources alongside peer support
Corecom Consulting doesn’t just rely on internal support. Gemma shares, “Our team has access to Vitality healthcare for both physical and mental health needs, including free counselling session. We are also partnered with Mintago which helps employee to ease financial pressures, recognising that money worries often spill into work-related stress”.
Commitment to Ongoing Learning
Raising awareness and encouraging ongoing learning about mental health is a key part of how leadership teams support wider teams. By dedicating time to these important topics, Corecom helps create a culture where mental wellbeing is openly discussed and understood.
“At Corecom Consulting, we also run regular sessions to raise mental wellbeing awareness, break stigma, and provide our team with the tools to spot when stress might be building in themselves or in others.”
This proactive approach empowers everyone to recognise signs of stress early and take action before it affects their health or work.
Creating a Mentally Healthy Workplace
As a people-first company, we take a holistic approach to looking after our people, encouraging clients and our wider community to do the same. And, with that being said, here are 3 ways any organisation can help make mental health a priority:
1. Train Mental Health First Aiders
Having trained Mental Health First Aiders, like Rachel and Gemma, means there are trusted people on hand who can listen, offer initial support, and point colleagues towards the right help.
2. Encourage Open Conversations
Reducing mental health stigma begins with open, honest conversations in a safe environment. Additionally, supporting flexible and hybrid working also help employees balance workload, home life, and self-care, boosting overall mental wellbeing.
3. Invest in Personal Development
Professional development, supporting both career progression and personal wellbeing, boosts confidence and motivation across team members.
Kindness, recognition and inclusion go a long way in helping people feel valued and developing a positive culture where everyone feels like they belong benefits both individuals, the wider team, and your business.
Final Thoughts
World Mental Health Day is more than just another date on the calendar.
It’s the perfect chance to reflect, have honest conversations, and rethink how we support ourselves and those around us at work – and our teams at Corecom are proud to be part of this growing awareness towards a healthier, happier workplace in tech.
A big thank you to Rachel and Gemma (and all team members in between) for being such strong advocates for wellbeing across both businesses and for sharing your thoughts.
