Mental Health Awareness Week 2025: Supporting Minds in Tech
At Corecom Technology Academy, our mission extends beyond developing technical excellence. We’re committed to nurturing the wellbeing of everyone in our community.
As we join the national conversation for Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 this May, we want to shine a light on the importance of mental health in tech education and careers.
This year’s theme, "Community," speaks directly to the everyday realities of life in tech, where it’s easy to feel isolated with long hours at a desk, intense problem-solving, and screen-heavy work. These high cognitive demands can sometimes take a toll, not just on our bodies, but on feeling connected in the tech space.
However, at Corecom Technology Academy (CTA), we’re proud to nurture an internal community where every learner and staff member feels valued, supported, and truly connected. From anchor days to wellness initiatives that promote balance, movement, and mindfulness, we’re building a space where shared experiences strengthen both mental wellbeing and our sense of community.
Empowering Learners with Holistic Support
We know that entering or progressing in the tech industry can come with pressures: fast learning, job competition, and imposter syndrome are all common. That’s why we embed mental health awareness into the heart of our Academy’s culture.
Our learners have access to:
Wellbeing check-ins - Associates have regular touchpoints with our Academy Ops & People Lead, Rachel McMahon, and end-to-end support to guide them through their tech journeys.
Peer-to-peer mentoring - Our experienced graduates share valuable insights within the Associates community, ensuring there’s support covered from every angle at CTA.
Mindful study practices - Workshops and sessions that integrate mindfulness and stress-reduction techniques into the learning experience.
Flexible learning schedules - We understand that life doesn’t stop when learning starts, so we provide flexible options to support a healthy balance.
Movement breaks and physical wellness - During Mental Health Awareness Week (… and all year round!) we encourage learners to engage in walking sessions, group yoga, or simply to take a moment away from the screen.
Stepping Up in Our Wider Tech Community
We believe that driving meaningful change in the tech industry starts with connecting to a wider network of like-minded individuals and organisations who share our values. That’s why Corecom Technology Academy are proud to be sponsors for this year's Leeds Digital Charity Ball, bringing innovation and inspiring tech talent to the forefront within the Leeds tech community!
The Leeds Digital Ball is a key event celebrating the city’s vibrant tech and digital community. In a world where access to technology is essential, it plays a great role in highlighting digital inclusion and raising funds to help bridge the digital divide.
“Our core values at Corecom Technology Academy focus on providing equitable opportunities for tech talent while driving business growth with tailored solutions. It’s a pleasure to support a charity that aligns with our mission to make a meaningful impact on the tech community.”
As part of our ongoing commitment to nurturing future tech talent, our Managing Director, James Taylor, is also supporting Grassroots through mentorship – empowering young people and underrepresented groups to explore (and embrace) new opportunities within the tech industry. A Community Call to Check In
We continue to encourage everyone in the tech community – industry leaders, students, employees, and partners – to regularly check in with themselves and others.
Mental wellness is not a one-off initiative; it’s an ongoing journey that we all have a role in pushing forward.
So, this Mental Health Awareness Week, our team at Corecom Technology Academy challenge our community to simple “pause and reconnect”. Go for that walk. Take a deep breath. Reach out. Sometimes, the smallest steps make the biggest difference.
